Ellen Schwartz, of the Healthcare is Human Right campaign, explains that once again, MVP Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield are attempting to raise health insurance rates for people with Vermont Health Connect plans. BCBS is proposing an average annual increase of 8.2%, with per-plan increases ranging up to 10.9%, while MVP Healthcare is proposing an average annual increase of 8.8%, with per-plan increases ranging up to 13.5%. Ellen urges Vermonters to take action to stop the health insurance rate hikes. Meanwhile, MVP - a New York-based insurance corporation - is suing the state of Vermont, challenging the government’s ability to regulate health insurance rates on the basis of affordability, quality, and access, and paving the way for a continued rise in healthcare costs and corporate profits.
