Defunding Planned Parenthood Threatens Essential Health Care for Vermonters

Meagan Gallagher, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Vermont Action Fund, explains that Republicans plans to defund Planned Parenthood threaten access to basic health care for thousands of Vermonters. Republican legislation would prevent Planned Parenthood from accepting payments from low-income and disabled patients who have Medicaid for health insurance (more than 50 percent of Planned Parenthood patients in Vermont have Medicaid for health insurance), and cut funding for being a designated family planning provider. They are the only federally designated family planning provider in Vermont. For many women, Planned Parenthood is their primary care provider, the only health care provider they see throughout the year. Vermonters are standing with Planned Parenthood to make sure our elected officials know that Planned Parenthood is an important part of our health care system that we must keep strong in Vermont. No matter what.
